Studies of yellow: déjà vu

The turn of the school year always carries a sense of déjà vu — as if we’ve stood here before, yet the view has shifted. The air feels different, the colors change, and the energy stirs in a new way.

On a recent sourcing trip to New Orleans, I found myself once again in the orbit of José-María Cundin’s work. His latest exhibition, Déjà Vu at Callan Contemporary, was a reminder of why I return to his art time and again. His command of color and form is the kind of work that quietly lifts the mood long after you’ve stepped away.

Back in Houston, Anita at Pondicheri continues to work her own kind of alchemy. Her seasonal creations are vibrant and intentional, layered with flavor and joy — proof that something nourishing can also be a feast for the eyes.

It’s a reminder I carry into design: that even when we’ve “seen it before,” there is always room for a fresh perspective. A new detail, a richer layer, a shift in the light that can make the familiar feel brand new.

Grief is both solitary and shared — we carry it quietly within ourselves, yet we also gather to hold it together.

In the wake of the Hill Country floods, we stand in awe of the extraordinary individuals and organizations who have stepped forward with courage, generosity, and care.

Here in Houston, Bo’s Place + The Center for Healing Arts stand out — steadfast in their mission, offering comfort, healing, and strength to those who need it most.

Our MannKind commitment also remains steadfast: may those who grieve not feel alone, but feel surrounded by a community that stands beside them.

Captured on the ground in Kerr County.

Hope is steadfast.
